“When we started looking for opportunities to give value to Partners of 1-800-SWEEPER we envisioned discounts from our vendors as one of the key benefits,” said Greg Blair, Executive Director for 1-800-SWEEPER. “In addition, we thought that rebates based on our increased purchases from those vendors would be a valued added element. We are pleased that this concept has been readily embraced by such prominent vendors and validated by the growth of our buying group rebate program.”

Sweeper Summit 2017 Wrap-Up

Category:

With over 120 attendees representing 42 different Member Partner companies and 17 Vendor Partners of 1-800-SWEEPER the 3-day, 2017 Sweeper Summit was a resounding success! For the fifth consecutive year, attendance at Sweeper Summit grew significantly, as did the opportunities for Partners to interact. Before the Summit even got underway, equipment manufacturer TYMCO hosted 1-800-SWEEPER Partners at the company’s Waco, TX training facility.

As in previous years, the Benchmark sessions started on the first official day, allowing participants to discuss in an open, non-competitive atmosphere key business costs for labor, insurance, equipment maintenance, tires, employee turnover, etc. as well as other, relevant metrics that drive bottom line profits and day-to-day operations within our niche sweeping service industry. This highly anticipated part of Sweeper Summit was again led by Tom Noon of Industry Insights.

Lexington Pavement Sweep – From Bucket to Business

Category:

Many of the 1-800-SWEEPER Partner companies started off as small operations. But perhaps none quite as small as Jim Blackerby’s Lexington Pavement Sweep, located in Lexington, KY. Jim got his start in the business cleaning up his Grandfather’s shopping center.

Jim’s grandfather owned a shopping center which, by Jim’s teenage years, had become an extended family business.   Jim’s father, who was managing the retail center, hired Jim to literally pick up trash in the parking lots by hand. As he describes it: “All I had was a bucket; I picked up every single cigarette butt and all pieces of trash by hand – no picker.” This continued until Jim graduated from high school. After Jim headed off to college, his father and grandfather eventually hired a commercial sweeping company, but there was continually dissatisfaction with refuse being left behind.

Providing Curb Appeal in South Carolina

Category:

SouthCo Commercial Curb Appeal in Darlington, SC, is a pretty typical sweeping service company according to owner Debbie McCaskill. When we ask sweeping company Partners how they got started in business it isn’t unusual to hear that they started based on the experience of a family member. In this case, Debbie’s brother-in-law, David McCaskill of AccuSweep Services, Inc. in Columbia, South Carolina originally told Debbie and her husband, Dale that they should start a sweeping company.

When asked if David was correct that power sweeping was a solid business opportunity, Debbie replied: “He must have been right – that was 27 years ago!”
