When the 1-800-SWEEPER co-op was created in 2011, our tagline “Nationwide Service Alliance” told a story about our goals- offering a coast to coast contingent of individually owned power sweeping service companies. In addition to sharing valuable knowledge, a joint marketing platform and buying group opportunities among the participating companies, “Nationwide Service Alliance” showcased our ability to service multiple locations using a unified billing and providing consistent service.
As the organization evolved, adding new sweeping Partner companies along the way, we added “Experience the Difference!” as our slogan. This update recognized that as “insiders”, we knew the benefits but potential customers should look at things that set us apart from others in the industry. Customers looking for sweeping services – or potential Partners thinking about joining the organization should take a closer look at 1-800-SWEEPER to appreciate attributes that set our organization and our members apart.
Recently, we realized that some in the industry had a perception – really a mis-perception – that our recognizable toll-free number was “THE ONLY” benefit of joining 1-800-SWEEPER.
Milestones are something to celebrate. And Progressive Sweeping Contractors, LLC. headquartered out of Toledo, Ohio just hit the 4-decade marker.
Started by 1-800-SWEEPER Board President, Mike Lucht in 1978 with a single sweeper truck, ProSweep is celebrating its 40-year anniversary in March 2018.
Over the years, Prosweep has grown from a 1-truck operation to a multi-city operation with a second location in Redford Michigan, outside Detroit. The Redford operation is helmed by one of Mike’s sons, Jason. To help commemorate the milestone, their website www.ProSweep.com was completely overhauled.
At Connor Sweeping, it’s All in the Family
Pat Connor is a man of many talents – and companies. Together with his brothers, the three men run three companies around Wilmington, Delaware. Pat is responsible for two of the companies – a roll off container (dumpster) company founded in 1995 and Connor Sweeping, which began in January 2005.
“Our sweeping business started because there was a need for construction clean up in the community and it was natural to kind of combine with our other businesses; so we filled the need.” Connor Sweeping works to clear sites of dust and debris including: construction, municipalities, industrial, and commercial. Mark Chamberlain had an early start in business creating an office furniture and cubicle company at just 23 years old. Four years later he sold the business, but continued working for the new owners for 10 years after that. At night, Mark would sweep parking lots as a side business.
Mark’s Inspiration
Often it seems, sweepers learn about the business from a family member who already has one. But not Mark. “I heard about sweeping from a guy in Denver – Kerry Armstrong” (also a 1-800-Sweeper partner). “I bought my first truck (a Tymco sweeper) from Kerry. He gave me a quick driving lesson in the truck, and then I had to head right back home.” The year was 1999, and that was the beginning of EnviroSweep in Colorado Springs, CO. Mark and his wife run the company together.
