Meet Our New Partner: New York Maintenance Group

Category:

Nicole, Joe and Danielle

When Nicole Cicillini-Balsamo’s parents, Angelo and Marie, started New York Maintenance in 2009, they had a vision of creating a company where employees would feel like they’re part of a family. Today, with Nicole’s husband, Joe, and sister, Danielle, involved in the company, NYM Group truly is a family business.

But as Nicole tells us, it’s still important to have over 60 employees involved and feeling like they are part of the family. To help accomplish that, their company has taken several unusual steps including developing an employee and human resources software tool that keeps everyone focused on day-to-day tasks and company updates. They have also developed driver incentives to help their sweeper operators stay safe as well as productive.

1-800-SWEEPER Partner Profile: Air Sweep, Inc.

Somewhere, in a family scrapbook or photo album, there is a photo of five-year-old Gary and six-year old Caroline Megliola standing in front of a sweeper. In the early 1970s, their dad, a full-time firefighter, started a parking lot maintenance job sweeping and picking by hand, eventually purchasing a small Tenant sweeper. By 1979 he purchased a new MASCO sweeper to develop a side business driving cross-country to CA to pick up a new Masco sweeper.

Air Sweep Inc. is currently helmed by Gary Megliola and partner, Nikki Serafino, along with Gary’s sister Caroline, and is still very much a family owned and operated company based in Agawam, Massachusetts. All told, the company has over forty-five years of commercial service under its belt.

People, Pride, Purpose: The Glue that Binds Team Members at Award-winning Company

Employee “buy-in” to understanding how the company is run, and ultimately the profitability of Contract Sweepers and Equipment, started in 2004 when a 100{cd9db56748df391b131010c0c880113f42d56e29626b6ebf74877cbc020d5b1a} employee buyout of the company from original owners was initiated.

Originally developed to help explain what conversion to an ESOP – an Employee Stock Ownership Plan – meant to all employees, Contract Sweepers & Equipment’s management developed the “People, Pride & Purpose” campaign.

“We were trying to explain the ESOP to our folks in a way that was simple, meaningful and frankly marketable,” Kesselring says. “We needed them to understand what we were doing and why we were doing it.”

And today, with over 100 people working at the award-winning company, Contract Sweepers & Equipment makes it a point to make sure all those people are healthy and feeling part of the team.

Can Electronic Vehicle Inspections Save Time or Money?

Category:

Before sending your sweeper operators out on the road, it has become mandatory to have the driver perform a physical inspection of the vehicle before his or her shift begins.

An inspection confirms vehicle safety and identifies any required maintenance issues. A beginning-of-shift equipment assessment also helps the driver and equipment manager confirm that all systems are working correctly from lights to sweeping components. These inspections have traditionally been completed as a paper checklist and stored in a drawer.

Recently, Matt Dziak, the Content Marketing Manager at Fleetio, published a Vehicle Inspection Checklist: A Guide to Smarter, More Efficient Inspections. Fleetio is a 1-800-SWEEPER Vendor Partner that provides a unique customizable vehicle inspection, repair logging and maintenance notification software.

Although the software was generic at start and could apply to almost any type of fleet of vehicles, 1-800-SWEEPER Partners have been developing and fine-tuning a version specific to the needs of sweeping service contractors.

As Matt’s article points out, drivers can only complete daily vehicle inspection forms as quickly as they can assess vehicles and write. If a maintenance issue pops up, more time is added as the driver writes or draws a description of the failure. The same issues apply to post-trip inspections and identification of issues that came up during a shift as well.
